Roman has decades of field experience as a technical advisor, team leader and project manager in over 70 countries with a regional focus on Africa, Eastern Europe, the Mediterranean, Middle East and Central-South Asia. His work for UN agencies (UNEP, UNDP, WFP), the World Bank, governments and business has addressed geo-political issues and poverty alleviation, governance reform and humanitarian emergency response as well as crisis management. In 1997 Roman volunteered as an investigator with the landmark Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) in South Africa www.justice.gov.za/trc/. Many assignments were undertaken in post conflict situations and frontier environments prone to social and political instability.

For example, as part of the UN Regional Governance Programme, Roman managed a multi-disciplinary partnership with the Citizen’s Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) www.cplc.org.pk in Karachi, Pakistan over a five-year period analyzing violent crime and extremism. His team monitored and prevented violence and created a model approach replicated throughout the region.

Roman is an accredited (IBLF Certified) specialist in the design of effective partnerships between business, government and civil society. He is also a graduate of the Gavin de Becker Advanced Threat Assessment Academy (2004), Associate Board Member (2012-2014) of the Association of European Threat Assessment Professionals (AETAP). Roman is also a published author and his travelogue “Someone, Somewhere – Encounters with People and Places” (2004) was well received. In 2003, he co-founded a home and school for traumatized children in Tanzania. The Saint Gabriel Home Foundation has been featured in radio and TV documentaries and in 2008 received the UN sponsored Sergio Vieira de Mello Humanitarian Award.

Roman is an experienced public speaker and has lectured at Georgetown University School of Foreign Service (Washington D.C.), Carroll College (Montana, USA) and delivered key-note speeches at the prestigious Library of Alexandria, Egypt. He is a frequent speaker aboard Crystal Luxury Cruises contributing to an award winning lecture series with celebrities, academics, business leaders, senior diplomats and notable explorers.

Roman is fluent in English and Polish, with a reasonable knowledge of Spanish and Italian. His passions include a quiet home life punctuated by travel, especially to extraordinary Africa where he resided and has joyfully explored over many years.
